Our Foundation is a non-profit tax-exempt organization under Section 501 (c) (3) that operates independently of the Wayland Union Schools Board of Education. Our Board of Directors is comprised of nine volunteers from the community along with two appointees, one from the Wayland Union Schools and one from the Board of Education. Our funding is through individual and corporate donations, fund raising, memorials and estate bequests. Funds are used to help bridge the gap between identified needs of the school and what is actually available through state and federal funding. Our current focus has been in the following areas: Innovation grants, National teacher conference awards, Student scholarships and Student camps, competitions and conferences.

Innovation grants allow teachers to request funds for new teaching tools, programs or technology that the district budget cannot cover. Many of our innovation grant ideas have blossomed into building or district-wide programs. National teacher conference awards supplement the cost of travel and registration so that teachers in the district can attend conferences and bring helpful and innovative knowledge back to the school system. Two scholarships are given out each spring to Wayland Union Students to help them further their education beyond high school.

We also help supplement the cost of students attending camps, competitions and conferences that enrich their school experiences. These include fine arts camps, leadership conferences and various club competitions. The Board of Directors is responsible for the investment, management and distribution of the assets of the Foundation. We meet monthly, usually on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6 pm. Meetings are typically held at the school's transportation facility north of the Middle School. Occasionally special meetings are necessary. In addition, the committees of the Foundation meet when necessary. These committees include: Public Relations, Legal, Projects, Fund Development, Finance and Investment, and Nominations.
