Curriculum & Instruction

Our department leads the instructional staff and administrators at Wayland Union Schools to ensure high quality experiences for all of our students.  Building principals, teachers, and other instructional staff are prepared to meet the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of each and every student who attends our schools.

We are committed to building meaningful relationships with every child so that they have the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in life.  We believe that our exemplary educational systems are a result of the collaborative efforts of our parents, staff, students, and community.  Together, we are improving the quality of life and learning for all!

Wayland Union Schools sets high standards and expectations for our students.  Our curriculum, instruction, and assessments are based upon high quality standards and expectations to promote “rigor,” “relevance,” and “relationships.”  We will challenge and inspire each student to become contributing members of our world.  Some students will need additional time and support, while others will need additional challenges; but all students will learn and experience success.  Students will learn content and skills that will be relevant to their future plans, whether it be post-secondary education or the work force.  Above all, they will learn in relationship with others.

Our department places emphasis on the following areas:

• Curriculum:  What do we want our students to learn?
• Instruction:  How do we teach our students?
• Assessment:  How do we know our students are learning?
