Meet the Principal!
Santino Di Cesare has been working for WUS since 2017. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Hope College, and his Master's from GVSU. “As the Principal of Wayland Union High School, I am excited and looking forward to the start of the school year. Our exceptional staff, talented students, and supportive community create an environment where excellence thrives. I am eager to witness the remarkable achievements and growth that will unfold in our classrooms, on our athletic fields, and within our extracurricular activities. With the dedication of our educators and the combination of enthusiasm and grit of our students, I am confident that this year will be one of our best yet. Go Cats!”
Meet the Assistant Principals!
Karyll Russell joined WUS in 2022. She received her Bachelor's from Alma College, her Master's from MSU, and MASSP’s Path to Leadership Program for Administrative Certificate. “I am really looking forward to joining the team at Wayland Union High School and to the adventures the year will, undoubtedly, bring. I began my career as a high school counselor and loved the relationships I was able to develop with students who are approaching adulthood and the next chapter of their lives. I look forward to learning and growing both personally and professionally in my new role and to serving alongside an incredible group of educators at WUHS.”
Brett VanDeRoer is new to our district! He earned his Bachelor's from Calvin College, and his Master's from Western Michigan University. Previously, Mr. VanDeRoer has worked as a middle school and high school science teacher, and was an assistant football coach for Byron Center Public Schools. “I am very excited about this new chapter and to be a Wildcat! I am excited to learn about the community of Wayland and to help our students have a great experience and build success stories! I am looking forward to this upcoming school year and working with the students, staff, and community of Wayland!”
