National Honor Society
NHS Selection Process
1. Eligibility (Scholarship Requirement)
Students in grades 11th and 12 who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible to apply for National Honor Society membership. Meeting the PA requirement does not guarantee acceptance, it simply allows students to move forward in the process.
2. Notification & Application
Eligible students receive an invitation to submit a Student Candidate Form the first Friday of the school year. This invitation will include a QR code to access the Student Candidate Form which will allow hem to be reviewed for potential National Honor Society Membership. This form includes four sections with questions related to each pillar:
- Leadership
- Service
- Scholarship
- Character
3. Faculty Council Review
The Faculty Council reviews all candidate forms. Each Candidate Form is initially reviewed with the name of redacted and first assessed solely on the merits of the student's answers.
4. Selection Decisions
The Faculty Council discusses candidates and votes. A majority vote results in an initiative for the student to become an National Honor Society inductee. Selection is not based on quotas but on whether each student meets the established criteria across all four pillars based on their Candidate Form answers.
5. Notification
Students are notified in writing of their non-selection in letters hand delivered and mailed home the week of induction breakfast. Selected members are notified the morning of induction breakfast.
6. Induction
Selected students participate in a formal induction ceremony, maintain NHS standards, and adhere to all guidelines laid out in Wayland Union High School's Chapter Bylaws to remain active members in good standing.
