Brenner Outstanding Teacher Award 2020 & 2021

Wayland Union Schools teachers, Mr. Ace Hulbert (2020) and Mrs. Katrina Brown (2021), were the recipients of the Katheryn Lorraine Brenner Outstanding Teacher Award. Mr. Hulbert is a teacher at Wayland Union High School and Mrs. Brown is a 1st Grade teacher at Baker Elementary.
Bob Brenner, a previous Superintendent at Wayland Union for 23 years, and his wife Sandy, established this award to honor an outstanding teacher who has committed the extra time and effort to benefit kids in the classroom and/or in extracurricular activities within Wayland Union Schools. This was in honor of their daughter, Katheryn, who passed away in 1993 due to complications of cystic fibrosis.
The specific criteria include:
- The teacher must have at least five years of teaching experience in Wayland Union Schools.
- The teacher could be an elementary, middle, or high school teacher.
- The teacher must be one who is committed to teaching as evidenced by showing a strong knowledge of curriculum, their field of expertise, and research.
- The teacher must believe that all students can learn.
