Information to Share

Wayland Union Schools was informed late Wednesday afternoon that an employee, Michael Batt, was arrested due to allegations of misconduct that occurred off school property. At this time, the District does not have information that the misconduct was related to the District or its staff and students. The employee was immediately placed on administrative leave and is prohibited from being on school property while the District continues to review the matter.

“While the issues do not involve the district, we have high expectations for the conduct of our employees and expect employees to engage in professional behaviors that reflect the mission and values of our community,” said District Superintendent Tim Reeves. “When behaviors are not aligned with district expectations, we will take all appropriate action, which may include disciplinary action or termination.”

The district is fully cooperating with law enforcement and their ongoing work. All questions should be referred to the Michigan State Police. The District will share additional information once available and when appropriate; however, due to the ongoing criminal proceedings, the District cannot comment further at this time.
