Wellness Day May 27, 2022
TO: All Wayland Union Schools Families and Students
FROM: Dr. Christina M. Hinds, Superintendent
DATE: April 20, 2022
RE: State-approved forgiven day
To promote staff wellness and appreciation, Wayland Union Schools will be closed for students and all staff on Friday, May 27, 2022, should there be no prior school or district closures between April 20 and April 29. If there is a closure day between said dates, May 27, 2022 will be a typical school/work day. This will be our sixth “snow day.”
- Building/District closure between April 21-April 29 = Normal school day Friday, May 27, 2022
- Building/District open between April 21-April 29 = District CLOSED on Friday, May 27, 2022
In light of the recent State allowance for a day of forgiveness for mental health and wellness of staff and students as outlined here:
The March 3, 2022, Memorandum from the Michigan Department of Education as released by Deputy Superintendent Kyle L. Guerrant states:
“For the 2021-22 school year only MDE will allow districts to request additional forgiven time when a district has already used some of the first six days of forgiven time during the current school year to offset a cancelation due to the district’s needs to address mental health and wellness of staff and students; those days will be considered as part of the first six forgiveness days.” (Guerrant, 2022)

This is for the 2021-2022 school year only and does not set precedent, yet we wanted to provide you with advance notice as this may adjust your plans for the holiday weekend. Please join me in thanking our staff for all they do every day to support our students and each other!
