Alumni Spotlight - Cassie Peereboom
Meet Cassie Peereboom, a Wayland Union Schools alumni from the Class of 2004!
After graduating, Cassie began her journey at Grand Rapids Community College before transferring to Grand Valley State University, where she earned her teaching degree.
Today, Cassie serves as a Level 2 Special Education Teacher at Wayland Union Middle School. During her time in the district, she has made a meaningful impact by bringing the Peer-to-Peer program to the middle school, creating opportunities for students of all abilities to connect through social, academic, and emotional support. She has also played an important role in helping others better understand disabilities, working to reduce stigma and build a more inclusive school community.
Reflecting on her time as a student, Cassie shared that Wayland “prepared me by giving me opportunities to be in the classroom before I graduated.” She also credits her guidance counselors for helping her discover a path that was right for her.
Cassie’s journey didn’t follow the exact timeline she once expected, and she’s grateful for that. “I had originally planned on starting my master’s degree right after I graduated college, but I ended up getting it almost 15 years later,” she explained. “I’m really glad it didn’t happen right away because it gave me time to discover what I was truly passionate about and pursue a degree that supports that passion.”
We’re proud to have Cassie making a difference right here at Wayland!
