WUHS Student Council Members Receive “Best of Showcase” at State Conference

2 representatives from SET SEG, 3 high school students, and the check

On Thursday, January 30th, Wayland Union High School Student Council members had the opportunity to attend the MASC Regional Connect Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During this conference, six of our Student Council members prepared two separate Student Showcase Presentations to enter in the regional competition. This competition gives students the opportunity to showcase the unique projects they are facilitating within their districts. Both presentations placed in the top 4, earning the opportunity to continue on to the state competition which was held during a State Conference in February.

During the State Conference, Teagan Robinson, Mason Babiak, and Jake VanDuine presented on Harvest Hop, which is a fall event for local Level 2 high school students, and came away with the “Best of Showcase” award. This award was paired with a $1,000 check from the SET SEG Foundation. Not only was this the first time Wayland Union students have received this recognition, it was also the first time SET SEG offered the accompanying prize!

On Wednesday, March 19th, representatives from the SET SEG Foundation visited Wayland Union Schools to present the students with the check. Student Council plans to utilize the money next school year to help fund Harvest Hop and to offset the cost of attending their Annual State Conference. This was a huge undertaking for the participating students which demonstrates the perseverance and leadership skills of our Student Council members. Wayland Union Schools is so proud of these young leaders!
