This summer, Cierra Onken, a Special Education Teacher at Dorr Elementary, took on the role of being our Experiential Summer Learning Program Coordinator. This program consisted of a variety of field trips and experiences that were carefully planned to provide enriching adventures that complement students academic learning and foster personal growth. These outings were not only fun and engaging but also educational, offering hands-on learning opportunities in a variety of settings. All expenses were covered by grant funds that were awarded to Wayland Union Schools. The selected field trips included visits to museums, parks, historical sites, and other educational venues that aligned with our curriculum objectives. Each trip was designed to stimulate curiosity, inspire creativity, and promote social interaction among students. Wayland Union Schools is thrilled to have been able to offer the opportunity for our students to explore, learn, and create lasting memories with their peers.

Here are a few quotes from students: Question: What was your favorite experience this summer?
Wynter: The State Capitol because it was so big and shiny. It was so pretty and unique.

Ryleigh: The sand dunes in Saugatuck. We rode dune buggies in the sand and it was fast. There were big hills, a lot of twists and turns and we even saw Lake Michigan.

Kai: I loved today... Learning about the weather was fun and then we became bakers where we made our own Smores dessert.

Miss Syd: The farm museum. I loved the tractors and learning how cereal is made. Watching students explore and learn how important farms are, was very rewarding.

Kegan: The train ride. I have never been on a train before. It was cool to see the different animals. My favorite was the deer.

Freya: The Zoo, we got to feed giraffes and pet goats.

Mikaela: The Sports... we got to meet real sports people and play games with them. They are tall and fast.
