Students from Wayland Union Middle School headed to the state Capitol to participate in the 24th annual AT&T/Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) Student Technology Showcase, highlighting the incredible applied technology efforts they’ve developed in the classroom.

During the showcase, WUMS students presented to state lawmakers on how they created their own 3D-Prints. The process began with utilizing Tinkercad, a 3D-design program, to create their figure. Afterwards, students used their printed models and silicone putty to craft a custom mold, which was then filled with melted chocolate or soap.

“Eva Perez, Max Bernes, and Logan Bush did an outstanding job explaining their process to everyone who stopped by our table. I am incredibly proud of their hard work and preparation for the Capitol Technology Showcase,” stated Jennifer Howard, WUMS Computers Teacher. “I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to the Wayland Union Education Foundation for funding this project in the fall. Without the WUEF grant, none of this would have been possible.”

David Lewis, President of AT&T Michigan states, “Michigan’s young students continually impress us with their creative use of technology to elevate their learning. They are the next generation of leaders, and their ability to seamlessly apply technology into their education is truly inspiring. AT&T is proud to support this annual event and excited to see the innovative advancements transforming classrooms.”

“The projects students bring to the Capitol for the Student Technology Showcase never cease to amaze us,” said Tammy Maginity, Executive Director of MACUL. “We were excited to welcome students back from Wayland Union Schools.”

“I am incredibly impressed by the innovative 3D-printing work our Wayland Union Middle School students are doing with Mrs. Howard,” stated Teresa Fulk, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services at Wayland Union Schools. “It was an honor to join this group at the MACUL Student Technology Showcase as they demonstrated their creativity and explored other innovative projects happening in schools across our state. I am grateful to Mrs. Howard for providing our students with this learning experience and to the Wayland Union Education Foundation for the grant funding that makes innovative experiences like this possible for our students and staff.”

Presented by Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning and underwritten by AT&T, the 2025 Student Technology Showcase featured demonstrations from students representing 26 schools across Michigan. The Lansing showcase was held in the state Capitol’s new Heritage Hall on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, giving students the opportunity to demonstrate and display technology projects they have created for Capitol visitors as well as policymakers.
