Voices of Ancients Institute

Ms. Foster recently participated in the Voices of Ancients Institute held at Southern Utah University, an immersive leaning experience grounded in archaeological inquiry and Indigenous perspectives. Through visits to culturally significant sites and storytelling from diverse Native voices, participants explored the history of the prehistoric Fremont people, who thrived in the region for over 1,200 years.
The Fremont culture demonstrated remarkable adaptability to the desert environment, developed complex communities, and communicated through intricate rock writings. Using our same district goal of Claim-Evidence-Reasoning, this program encouraged participates to discover the truths about the Fremont people, including the Paiute, Shoshone, Ute, Goshute, and Navajo tribes of the American Southwest.
This experience for Ms. Foster was deeply meaningful, eye-opening and will ultimately enrich the students learning in her classes. We are so glad our educators are seeking out impactful experiences this summer!
