Meet our New SRO

Wayland Union Schools is pleased to welcome Officer Rookus as our new School Resource Officer! A Wayland Union High School alumnus with 39 years of law enforcement experience, he brings a career of service and a personal connection to our district.

Officer Rookus’ journey began in 1984, when he worked as a security guard at the high school. In 1987, he became a police officer, beginning a career that would span nearly four decades. After retiring in 2016, he continued serving the community through part-time work at the police department.

When the district’s School Resource Officer position became available, Officer Rookus saw an opportunity to return to his roots and applied. His new role brings him back to the district where he was once a student and where his career began, supporting a safe school environment and building positive relationships with students and staff.

Outside of work, Officer Rookus enjoys boating and just about anything that gets him outdoors.

If you see him around our buildings, be sure to say hello. Welcome back to Wayland Union Schools, Officer Rookus!
