WUS Hires New High School Athletic Director and Assistant Principal

Wayland Union Schools recently hired Adam Valk as the new Athletic Director at Wayland Union High School and Karri Bailey as the new Middle School/High School Assistant Principal, pending board approval.   

Valk is replacing former Athletic Director, Matthew Moffett, who moved to another district. The WUHS Athletic Director position will also include overseeing the district Fitness Center and Pool.  The Middle School and High School Assistant Principal is a new position to serve 8th and 9th grade students.

Adam ValkValk is currently the High School and Middle School Athletic Director at Hopkins Public Schools where he has worked for the past eight years.  He is a 2007 graduate of Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Elementary Education. Valk received his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University in Athletic Administration in 2014.  He lives in Shelbyville with his wife and two children. “I look forward to joining Wayland Union Schools and am excited about the opportunity to meet the students, coaches, teachers, and community members,” said Valk.

Karri BaileyBailey currently teaches sixth grade at Wayland Union Middle School and has worked for WUS since 2008. During this time she was the Technology Consultant for one year. She has served on District wide committees for curriculum, technology, Grade Level, and Back-to-School Kick-off.  Bailey earned her Masters of Education in Instruction and Curriculum from Grand Valley State University in 2011 and her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Ferris State University in 2008. She is married to Mike, a WUS alum, and has three daughters.  Bailey commented, “I’m looking forward to serving our students, staff, and community in this capacity! Go Wildcats and go green!!
